Nao Yazawa

This episode of the OSMcast! is one of those chances that when presented to you, you just have to take. It’s a truly rare thing to get to interview a creator of something that you love, and even rarer for it to be someone from another country. In this case, it was manga and and a manga creator from Japan.

Specifically, we had the most wondrous opportunity to talk with Nao Yazawa, who has created such things as Wedding Peach, Nozomi, and most recently a series called Moon and Blood. We got to chat about her experience at cons, creating manga, and more. It was conducted at this year’s MTAC. Some may even know it as MTAC Devil’s Dozen.

OSMnotes

Once again, gigantic thanks for MTAC and Nao Yazawa for this opportunity to chat with her.

While Wedding Peach is out of print, it’s currently not the hardest thing to track down. That said, Moon and Blood is very much in print, very shojo-riffic, and is a pretty enjoyable read. This is coming from Basil, who normally can tolerate vampire stuff only as Castlevania and Hellsing.

You can click on this for a larger sized version!

The manga page in question that Kevin asked about.

And as a favor we would like to ask the world: Like we mentioned in our previous MTAC podcast, when you have a chance to see a panel or talk to the creator of something? Take it. When it comes down to it, it’s that craziness that rests beneath their cranium that gives all the awesome in the world. The shows, games, comics that we get to experience and talk about in tweets, blogs, audio recordings set loose upon the internet. In many ways they are unsung heroes and heroines, and they are some of the most important people around in geekdom.

In other OSMnews, we already have the next episode mostly ready, so you should see an actual update next Monday! It is the last long lost episode we had left in the Pile of Shame that was last year, a roundtable about Toonami with the Chainsaw Buffet and Voice-Over Actor Supreme Micah Solusod. It’s only almost a year out of date! That’s still fresh, right? RIGHT?

So anyway look forward to it!

MTAC Devil’s Dozen March 29-31, 2013

It’s currently raining like mad out here in Alabama so what better time to curl up, grab a beverage of your choosing, and listen to us as we spin the yarn of MTAC 2013, aka MTAC Devil’s Dozen.

The hopes, the dreams, the tribulations, the successes, and all the rest that this con brought to us, nay, the world. Including, not to the fault of the con, the worst panel we have ever, EVER been to! Listen in as Basil gets angrier than he ever does in life. And he works retail! As per Official OSMcast Guidelines, we are joined at the hip by the Chainsaw Buffet podcast.

OSMnotes

MTAC’s next year is going to full of LOVE so that should prove interesting! Speaking of love, we are planning to release our interview with Nao Yazawa this upcoming Monday. As I think we mentioned during the podcast it was kinda split into two small segments and Basil is currently figuring how to best handle that. And after that, we’ll have a LONG LOST EPISODE brought forth from the year previous year. It’s about the relaunch of Toonami!

Topical. That’s the OSMcast Guarantee!™

MTAC Omega. Another world, another time.

And our first actual episode of 2013! Recorded in 2012! It is the interview we had with some of the wonderful people that run MTAC we recorded on site last year. Sadly the file is the most tsun tsun file we have ever had and as such is mostly unedited.

But the staff we got to talk to are anything but dere as they tell us all sorts of things about last MTAC and this upcoming MTAC.

Which you should totally go to.

To MTAC.

Go to MTAC.

Also Momocon.

The Stuff Basil Paneled About at MTAC Omega

Ok folks I always keep promising that I’ll list out everything I panel about at cons… then never do. Soooooo here they are~

Getting Your Anime Groove Back

I have a bunch of anime I throw into a folder and pick out as I’m feeling it. So the line up changes up on occasion. I end up digging into episodes and pulling out bits for a quick overview for each, so you only get 4-5 shows a panel.

Manga That You Should Buy Right Now

This list is set in stone but in no particular order. It’s a PowerPoint-esque thing that works because there’s no video! I’m sure that if I do another panel, I can fill it it in with even more manga though~

The Man Who Voices It All: Richard Epcar

So there we were at MTAC Omega, and I (Basil) looked at Kevin and said, “OK, we GOTTA interview Richard Epcar. This is a thing that must occur.”

Kevin responded, “Uh, ok! But I have no clue what to say I mean I don’t really follow US voice actors and-”

“Kevin,” I then expertly cut him off, ” Trust me. You’ll understand once we do.”

I then proceeded to drop kick like 15 ninjas then got a sweet hair cut. Man my hair so light and fluffy now!

But the important part of the story  was  the Sunday of MTAC Omega. I sadly I had to educate the masses via pane form while Kevin got to  interview people. We met up afterwards and I asked, “So how did it go?”

“Basil.” Kevin gallantly stated, “We GOTTA interview Richard Epcar again. This is a thing that must occur. That man is amazing.”

This is that interview.

OSMcast: MTAC Goes To 11! 5-2-2011

It's a con that knows how to rock out with it's uh, anime out!

THE OSMCAST IS BACK! And we have brought back with us the motherload of Middle Tennessee Anime Convention con report in audio form goodness. You can even tell it was even recorded at the con4! (Some parts, more than others. Also we originally planned on releasing this much, much earlier.) Since MTAC decided this year to Go to 11, so did we. We start off being all self absorbed and talked about our panels with the wonderful gentlemen of Akihabra Renditions (and SeishunCon). Then we drug in the guys from Tennesse’s own Chainsaw Buffet podcast to talk about the convention istelf. Finally, we get to have a chat with Nicholas Qualls (Senior Director of Public Relations), Christi Binkley (Director of Media Relation), and the big man himself Lucas Leverett (Convention Chairman, Senior Director of Venue & VIP Affairs). And in-between all these bits are on the spot and off the cuff interviews we had with the con goers themselves.

FUN FACT: We would have called this the MTAC Omegacast, but their name for next year is MTAC Omega! So I guess we’ll have to wait until next year as well. Darn! Also, this is probably now officially our longest podcast ever.

OSMnotes

Sorry that we have been away so long! But rest assured, we are back and ready for action!

And by action, we mean Otakon. It’s going to be exciting!

If you would like to read even more words about things like anime and what not, Basil even updated his blog somewhat recently-ish.

The Getting Your Anime Groove Back List from MTAC 11

Hey folks, Basil here!*

When I was running my Getting Your Anime Groove Back panel at this past MTAC, I recieved several requests to post the list online. So I went ahead and posted it in the MTAC Forums, but here it is again just in case:

So there you go! If you were at the panel, I hope you had a great time and found something that you like! If you weren’t at MTAC, well check some all of these out anyway. You might just like one, or two!

Maybe even three!

*I’m the only one that posts on the webapge, so I guess I’m always here, huh?

Spike Spencer

What’s this?! A bonus episode out of nowhere?! Say it ain’t so! You see, at MTAC Odyssey we teamed yup with the wonderful gentlemen of the Chainsaw Buffet podcast to interview Spike Spencer. Spike, has done many a role in anime and video games, but is most likely best known for doing the voice of Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion. And since the Chainsaw Buffet guys have already released their version of interview, we decided to use the magic of RSS feeds to let you in on the action! So if you notice the completely different opening song, that’s why.

“It is said that as many days as there are in the whole journey, so many are the otaku and podcasters that stand along the road, each microphone and netbook at the interval of a day’s journey; and these are stayed neither by snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness nor asstons of even more rain from accomplishing their appointed course with all speed.” – Podcaster’s Creed of the Persian Empire (trans. B.A. Berchekas 2010)

MTAC Odyssey

That’s right folks, despite the crazy, crazy rains that have plagued Nashville and it’s metropolitan area ss well as the rest of Tennessee, the OSMcast has soldiered on through crappy hotel dives and Dunkin Donuts to bring you you our super-omega-omni-cast MTAC Odyssey con review. It’s a whopping knee-slappin’ one hour, twenty fours minutes, and thirty nine seconds of Middle Tennessee Anime Convention Goodness. It has our con reviews spanning all three days, interviews with you the con-goers yourselves, as well as a chat we had with Media Relations and Advertising Director Christi Binkley and Community Relations Director Nicholas Qualls.

OSMcrap: “The REALLY real real MTAC Ninja Experience”

Play

No other self-respecting podcast would even attempt something THIS real!

Man,  just when you thought it was safe to listen to podcasts, we had go and post this. It’s our long lost MTAC episode! Okay, so it was never really lost, but I guess it is kind of long! It’s also REALLY keeping it real. How real? Well it’s a collection of interviews we took as ran around like idiots as we talked to any attendee we could talk to. And also possibly some that didn’t really want to, either. So I guess that’s pretty real. Doesn’t get much realer than that, really.

Yeah, I have no real idea what I’m talking about either. But I guess I should mention that the audio quality is kind of crap, really.

Mad PropsAkihabra Renditions! Mark from said Renditions ran around with me as we did this and ended up doing a lot of talking in the end. So check them out when you get the chance. They do some pretty cool stuff.

OSMnotes

Sadly the poster does not look nearly as awesome as the DVD cover.

Sadly the poster does not look nearly as awesome as the DVD cover. But the poster could STILL be yours!

Boy I kinda sound dumb in that there intro! That’s what I get for doing something alone. But don’t forget THE DRAGONBALL BASIL WANTS TO DUMP OFF THESE STUPID POSTERS CONTEST!

Send us an email at osmcast@gmail.com and tell us what you thought about the new Dragonball Evolution live action film. Perhaps you liked it! Or mayhap you hated it with a passion of a thousand suns. It could even be you are somewhere in between. Hell it can even be about the PSP game. No matter what the opinion is, we want to hear about it. To sweeten the pot, we are giving away two Dragonball Evolution posters. One is for our favorite email, and the second will be an email picked at random. Once you get said poster, do with it whatever you desire. Put it on your ball, or burn it in effigy! We don’t care!

Also, talk to us via the OSMline aka 206-202-0071 , and you may obtain the freakiest homemade Sackboy head EVER. No really one day, I’ll post a picture.
