OSMcast: ModNation Racers 8-16-2010

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Truly, only on the master system that is the PS3 can one truly enjoy the Spirit of the Drift™.

In this fast and FURIOUS episode of the OSMcast! we decided to take the best kart racer around for a spin.  And in case you haven’t read the title yet, that game is United Front Games’ ModNation Racers.

OSMnotes

You can buy ModNation Racers everywhere video games are sold! And also PS3s, in case you need one of those. And you would like some free entertainment, our pal Victor has started updating his website with his brand new novella Chairshot: A Love Story. It’s an exciting tale of triumph, anguish, and wrestling. You can start reading it here.

OSMcast: Mass Effect 2 4-5-2010

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Mordin: This is the new why you play Mass Effect.

It’s a new month! To celebrate the OSMcast! decided to talk about a game from the even more not-too distant past than the last time. So here’s a podcast where we talk about BioWare’s scifi RPG/shooter hybrid sequel Mass Effect 2!

OSMnotes

The OSMcast! is once again going to MTAC! And, craziness of craziness, we are running panels. Several, in fact!

  • 20th Century King: A look at Naoki Urasawa: the OSMcast! will be looking at one of the most awesome manga and anime creators of our time, Naoki Urasawa. Perhaps you may have heard of him! We’ll be looking stuff from as early as Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl (Maybe even Beta!!!), through Master Keaton and Monster, and even his latest stuff like 20th Century Boys, PLUTO, and Billy Bat. We’ll also be coving the various forms his works have taken, like the Monster anime (that has been running on SciF- I mean, SyFy, and the 20th Century Boys live action films.
  • Tsundere: Why do we love the ones that hate us most?: The panel we ran at Ohayocon returns, bigger, badder, slightly less out of our asses! Ah, tsunderes. You know the “I hate you! But I love you! But I hate you! But I-” types best exemplified by say, Akane from Ranma 1/2. This is a panel dedicated to those wonderful ladies (and guys in some cases) that can go from raging demon to moe moe in under six seconds. We, the intrepid risk takers and go getters here at the OSMcast! will be talking about this most classic of anime tropes. The history, the whys, the hows, and we’ll probably even get pissed off at you, before secretly showing that we actually like you.
  • The Works of Rumiko Takahashi: This is a panel borne from the hot fiery shounen brolliance that is the OSMrenditions  (OSMcast! + Akihabara Renditions) this is a panel where we talk about Rumiko Takahashi. And probably argue about her stuff a lot. It should be pretty entertaining!

OSMcast: Mass Effect 1-04-2010

Wrex from Mass Effect

Wrex: This is why you play Mass Effect. (He also has way more porn drawn of him than any other character. Think about that.)

It’s a new year! To celebrate the OSMcast! decided to talk about a game from the not-too distant past. So here’s a podcast where we talk about BioWare’s scifi RPG/shooter hybrid Mass Effect!

Protip: Also the sequel is coming out super-soon so you have to get prepared! Therefore, if you have already played Mass Effect consider this podcast a primer as for why the series is awesome.  (Like you need reminding, right?)

OSMnotes

Gentlemen, this game is everywhere you want to buy it. You can even just download the game straight to your Xbox 360. Or straight to your PC via Steam. NO EXCUSES PEOPLE.

I guess since Zero is actively USING his geass, we don't HAVE to watch. Yeah.

So it’s a new year and you may have noticed we are now officially Bi-weekly! In the “New podcast every two weeks” sort of way, and not “Two new podcasts every week” sort of way. While we would love to blab at you that much, between school, work, and everything else under the sun, it’s just not feasible. BUT things are also on track where we will should be hitting that wondrous  and wooshy-sounding deadline for the vast foreseeable future. That’s good, right?

Right?

Ahem.

As always! You can email us, call us, comment at us, what have you!

The next OSMcast! will be a strange new kind of episode! So different, so strange, so bizarre, even I, Basil, Lord Prophet of OSM and also, sometimes commas, do not know it’s contents.

But in a couple of weeks, we ALL will know.

ALL. That listen, anyway.

OSMcast: Brutal Legend… And Friends! 10-19-2009

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
You want to talk Brutal? I had to edit this in Paint. Makes it all jaggy and shit.

You want to talk Brutal? I had to edit this in Paint. Makes it all jaggy and shit.

While a day late and a dollar short, the OSMcast! returns with some slightly less than hot off the presses podcasting action! Since the latest season of anime hitting Japan pretty much blows, we’ve discovered that we’ve ended up playing a lot more video games than usual!  So we took the whole Moment of OSM/Whatcha Been Playing segment into the entire podcast. ISN’T THIS EXCITING!?!

In the end we talk the most about Brutal Legend, but we cover the bases from Uncharted 2 to Phantasy Star IV and a whole bunch inbetween. Old, new, we don’t care!

OSMnotes

This was supposed to have shown up on the 19th, sure. But Basil’s flash drive died. So we had to find another way to transfer the files (Which ended up being a new flash drive).  Then Basil installed Windows 7! Which means all his programs went bye bye and he didn’t realize quite what all that meant until he had to upload and format the podcast for publiscation and stuff.

So you can forward all complaints to osmcast@gmail.com. Or any other comments you may have! It’s all good.

OSMcast: Fallout 3 04-27-2009

Fallout 3

Fallout 3

In this week’s episode of the OSMcast, we’re joined by the Anime World Order‘s Daryl Surat to talk about Fallout 3. It’s  Bethesda Game Studios’ take on the classic video games series Fallout by Black Isle Studios. So of course we talk about those too. All in all it’s a very Fallout-y podcast. Except when it’s not.

Spoiler Alert: After the podcast Inubito and I did leave to try and see Crank: High Voltage. However, the fools that we were decided to get food first and missed the last showing. So instead we saw Fast & Furious, which was neither fast nor furious.

OSMnotes

You can pretty much find this game everywhere that you can find remotely new games. Hell, I think some places still have Collector’s Editions floating around at discounted prices. And who wouldn’t want a Pip-Boy bobble head and a Fallout 3 lunchbox. I mean really. As far as I can tell, this game is pretty awesome, and you all should totally buy it. Speaking of things you can buy…

You know it's good when the cover art in some regions features a guy punching through another guy's head.

Rumor has it that Toys ‘R’ Us has the PS2 game God Hand around for $20. This one of the best action games around. In fact some may say it’s even the best action game, EVER. (It also has the best ending credits song, too!) We’ve mentioned the game in the show before, as it’s one of those weird games that’s really good but got some really bad scores. Why? I have no clue, maybe some people just don’t like fun. Oh, and if you too lazy to leave your house, that’s fine! It looks like their website has it, too.

We’ve mentioned it before butjust  in case: Our glorious DJ Inubito, has teamed up with some fellow DJs and have formed Dou(gai)jin Recordings and have already released their first promo EP. And best of all? You can download it right now.

Beyond Nerdcore, BEYPND REMIX. ... NERDMIX.

Beyond Nerdcore, BEYOND REMIX. ... NERDMIX. OK, so I need to work on better taglines.

In the next thrill-packed episode of the OSMcast, it’s all anime all the time as we tackle several shows that just hit for the Spring 2009 Anime Season. Not exactly full reviews since at most we’ve seen maybe three episodes, but our takes on what the show looks to be about and if it should be on your radar or not. We’ll also be announcing a brand new contest! It’s EXITING.

If you’d like to contact us, you can send us an email at osmcast@gmail.com, check out our forum, leave a comment in the comments section, or even give us a call on the OSMline (206-202-0071).

And finally we hear at OSM Central wish Daryl all the best of luck on his surgery today. But frankly, we aren’t worried.

We're positive that he can take it like a champ.

OSMcast: Retro Game Challenge 03-31-2009

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
Its like the Eighties... but BETTER.

It's like the Eighties... but BETTER.

The OSMcast goes forth once more as Basil, Kevin, and special guest commentator JP grapple the numerous and awesome 8-bit modern games that comprise one of the best DS titles to come out in years: known only as Retro Game Challenge!

Protip: So okay I said that it’s the 31st when it actually released on the 30th. Whoops.

OSMnotes

WHY HAVEN’T YOU BOUGHT THIS GAME YET. There are people at XSEED who could be bringing us the sequel but instead are DYING because they cannot feed themselves and their families due to the rest of you NOT BUYING THIS GAME. /hyperbole

(Here is a link to amazon.com so you can buy this game. Or go to a Best Buy or Gamestop or whatever you have to do!)

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Incidentally guys and gals, MadWorld is also mad fun. There is nothing more visceral on the Wii than yanking on the Wii Remote and Nunchuck and watching my enemies be ripped in twain. I literally have not had so much fun on this system since Mario Galaxy. They need to take this engine and gameplay and give me a Fist of the North Star varient. Good stuff. Very fun.

Sadly what wasn’t fun was that as I was talking during this recording I could feel my throat dying. Lo and behold this past week it turned for the worse as I’ve had a monsterously bad throat infection. So what do I do when I get sick? I watch seasons of anime!  And for this purpose I downloaded obtained two series: Library War and all of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Well the main 110 episodes). Of course I haven’t watched ALL of the show yet, but I’ll get through them eventually. It is now only a matter of time.

Yeah, its kinda like that...

Yeah, it's kinda like that...

Speaking of only and matter of time and anime, this weekend is MTAC! I (Basil, aka the guy who writes all these crazy posts and “show notes” ) will be on at least two panels at MTAC. I’ll be a part of the Podcast Roundtable Panel which is being held Friday night at 7:00 PM in the Fan Panel room. Then on Sunday at 1 in Panel Room 2 I’ll be the “token male” in the Shojo Mojo Panel: Feminism in Anime. I could be in some risky waters here!

Thankfully, I’m pretty sure they never listened to Weeadicks…

(I hope.)

OSMcast: Street Fighter IV 02-23-2009

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009
Street Fighter IV

Street Fighter IV

Hey kids! It’s the OSMcast! And tonight/today/whenever you are listening to this, we’re talking about Capcom’s latest fighting game, STREET FIGHTER IV!

And other stuff, too. Like God Hand, Lost Odyssey, Shiren the Wanderer, Senko no Ronde… and Superman 64. (Sorry about that.)

OSMnotes

Street Fighter IV is out on Xbox 360 and PS3, and in fact is so brand new it hasn’t even been out a week when this podcast gets posted. Therefore you should go out into the world, walk into a store, and go buy it. Because that may just be the last time you see the sun for some time.

However finding a decent stick or one of those fancy fightpads… Not so easy.

Thumbnails tell you nothing, so I made a larger version clickable.

Thumbnails tell you nothing, so I made a larger version clickable.

So I suggest that spend your money on Senko no Ronde instead  (Please ignore the stupid cover art. Yeah, Ubisoft didn’t have a clue what to do with this thing.). That is, if the idea of Street Fighter in the context of a shoot ‘em up appeals to you. On the other hand,  the good man Inubito would suggest that perhaps Slide America – A Nationwide Documentary on Drifting in North America might be something you hip drifting cats would be interested in. It will certainly be a  more accurate portrayal of the sport than other movies releasing this year.

If you aint outta control, you aint IN control!

If you ain't outta control, you ain't IN control!

And in a stunning change of events, we got an email! Shock! Awe! Baseless pandering finally paid off! Yes, YOU TOO (!!!) can be mocked by us for the Internet to preserve for all of eternity! All it takes is sending us an email! There are other ways you can contact us, but I’ll leave to you to read on down to the contest copy-pasta or to the lovely information in the side bar. But yes,  it is now proven by one of our intrepid listeners : if you send us an email, we will answer it.

The rules for this contest are very simple! You just have to talk to us! No matter what, we’ll need an email. You can send us one at osmcast@gmail.com. Also, you could leave us a comment in the comments section below this post. Or call us up on the OSMline at (206) 202-0071. However you do it though, we’ll need an email to contact you. The PRIZE AS WE HAVE NOW ANNOUNCED, is an OSMcast T-shirt! Possibly a one of a kind! Or at least a very few of a kind…

OSMcast: Tales of Vesperia 01-26-2009

Tales of Vesperia

Tales of Vesperia

After way too long, we are now able to post our take on Namco Bandai Games’ latest game in the “Tales of” series, Tales of Vesperia!

It’s our actual original recording too! We (aka DJ Inubito) were able to salvage it after all.  (Which is good because our attempt to rerecord was not so good…)

Protip: We’re still using the travel mcrophone, so the audio isn’t at it’s best yet. One day Samson will get my orginal mics back to me!

OSMnotes

Tales of Vesperia is possibly the best Xbox 360 JRPG out there, depending on who you ask. But chances are you’ll like it, if not love. And it’s still crazy-easy to find. So you should go buy it.

However Namco Bandai’s Dragonball: Evolution for PSP? Not looking so hot. But hey I guess it’s still better than Street Fighter: The Movie: The Video Game. Both of them.  No wait… I think I’d still rather play those. Sorry Dragonball!

And if you haven’t lamented the fate of Winter, please do so. Giest was an alright game, and the Wii gets precious few enough actually interesting games as of late.

As for the prize, well we are having this conest till the end of February so before then we’ll let you know!

OSMcast: 2008 OSMawards! (Video Games) 01-12-2009

Sunday, January 11th, 2009
Because awards have to be gold-colored!

Because awards have to be gold-colored!

What’s an easy way to kill time on the mic when a new year arrives? You talk about the previous year! So here’s our OSMawards! for the video games of 2008.

Protip: We had to rasie the gain in order to get this podcast listenable. So it might get static-y at times.

OSMnotes

So I guess Bob’s Game isn’t. Oh well! We talk about it and then what happens? It’s GONE. It’s enough to make a man weep! … or not! Now he just sounds like (more of an) idiot. NO MATTER. But now we are going to talk CONTEST TIME.

As for the prize, well we are having this conest till the end of February so befor ethen we’ll let you know!

PS: The tune we used was Pendulum‘s “Sounds of Life.”

OSMcast: The World Ends With You 11-03-2008

The World Ends With You

The World Ends With You

Expand your horizons, your world, as it were, with our latest podcast all about Square-Enix/Jupiter’s awesome game for the Nintendo DS: The World Ends With You!

And also where we try not to talk about the World of Warcarft! … Too much.

OSMnotes

This game is in steady supply, but sadly no matter where we checked, the “Square-Enix tax” is in full effect and you are looking to be spending $40 for this game. It’s totally worth it though!

We just got back from CrisisCon, and it was pretty fun! Definitely an enjoyable con, and we’ll be sure to come back next year. I’m sure we’ll talk more about it on our next podcast, but by then Inubito and Basil will have already been to Nekocon! Such is the way our recording and update shcedule works…

Theres a joke in this, I just know it...

There's a joke in this, I just know it...

Street Fighter IV is looking like it’s shaping up to be pretty awesome. They’re even having a contest where if you art is rad enough, it’ll be on the inner cover of the game! But right now all we care about is the awesome magazine ads we were talking about. Until then, we’ll just play more Third Strike and I’ll weep that Makoto isn’t in SFIV yet. :(

Oddly enough the most repeated question at the Crisis Con panel was “Do you get enough feedback?” And the answer is a resounding “NO, WE DO NOT AND IT MAKES OUR SOULS UNHAPPY. D:” So, if you would please be so kind as to comment down below, shot us email, or even voice mail, you’ll be our favorites. Unlike those other listeners…

Oh and for the record the Burning Crusade expansion of World of Warcraft came out January 16, 2007… so almost two years between expansions… almost. Just sayin’.
