And yes, that’s right in a mere matter of weeks the OSMcast! shall be taking our annual sojourn to greatest anime con of the southeast, Anime Weekend Atlanta. There will be thrills, chills, excitement, PODCASTING. Worlds will be rocked. Minds, BLOWN. Also, we have panels. Basil will be teaming up with Drew from Akihabara Renditions for two action-packed riveting panels of amazement. Now, if you listened to the podcast, and why wouldn’t you, you already know what’s going down. But for those of you that for some reason are reading this instead of immediately clicking on that arrow for audio epiphany, he’s some spoilers.

Okay I'll admit it. I just wanted an excuse to post this amazing poster.

For one, we’ll be hosting an Engrish Jamboree. Yeah, a whole panel of Japanese people trying to speaking English and failing spectacularly. It’s incredibly politically correct! And THEN, or perhaps before (I have no clue which panel comes first), we’ll he hosting AWA’s Wide World of Sports (Anime). In case you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s a panel on sports anime, and why it’s awesome. And if you disagree, why you’re WRONG.

And speaking of being wrong, the Expendables was awesome and you like stuff being blown up, shot at, or stabbed and hearing wonderfully horrendous dialog you should have already seen it. Oh wait, I guess everyone already did. So uh, go see Scott Pilgrim! Apparently no one has gotten around to doing that yet.

Truly, only on the master system that is the PS3 can one truly enjoy the Spirit of the Drift™.

Travis is probbaly best known for his work as Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist: (Nazi-verse as well as the superior Brotherhood persuasion) and Guile from Street Fighter IV. Not be out done, Laura played the role of Lust in the Fullmetal Moneymakers as well as Chun-li fom Street Fighter IV.

A Drifting Life is just under $20 at Amazon at the time of this post. You should go buy it! You can also buy Dragon Quest IX from Amazon, but I’m pretty sure you can buy that wherever video game are being sold. It’s a pretty good one!

But seriously, make sure you get A Drifting Life. The manga is an inspiring work, and anyone with a love for manga is sure to come away a better person for having read it. A work like this is honestly an incredibly rare treat for us, and something that everyone should indulge themselves in.

Because sometimes even webcomics needs a shot of espresso.

And if you are interested in reading things like online comics, Eric and Lee have kicked off a brand new webcomic called Affogato Style. And if you are not, then uh… Go anyway. It’s got coffee, and explosions, and sometimes, it’s even funny.

When we started the OSMcast!, there were a few people we knew we just had to interview. This is one of them! So we decided to finally dust off our interview from Ohayocon 10 and present to you The Life and Times of Carl Gustav Horn, Dark Horse’s most baddass manga editor. the man has worked on such titles as the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, Clover, and others. He talks to us on how he got started in the industry, he thoughts on the importance of buying anime and manga in the US, and more.

What’s this?! A bonus episode out of nowhere?! Say it ain’t so! You see, at MTAC Odyssey we teamed yup with the wonderful gentlemen of the Chainsaw Buffet podcast to interview Spike Spencer. Spike, has done many a role in anime and video games, but is most likely best known for doing the voice of Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion. And since the Chainsaw Buffet guys have already released their version of interview, we decided to use the magic of RSS feeds to let you in on the action! That’s right folks, despite the crazy, crazy rains that have plagued Nashville and it’s metropolitan area ss well as the rest of Tennessee, the OSMcast has soldiered on through crappy hotel dives and Dunkin Donuts to bring you you our super-omega-omni-cast MTAC Odyssey con review. It’s a whopping knee-slappin’ one hour, twenty fours minutes, and thirty nine seconds of Middle Tennessee Anime Convention Goodness. It has our con reviews spanning all three days, interviews with you the con-goers yourselves, as well as a chat we had with Media Relations and Advertising Director Christi Binkley and Community Relations Director Nicholas Qualls.

Tsundere: Why do we love the ones that hate us most?: The panel we ran at Ohayocon returns, bigger, badder, slightly less out of our asses! Ah, tsunderes. You know the “I hate you! But I love you! But I hate you! But I-” types best exemplified by say, Akane from Ranma 1/2. This is a panel dedicated to those wonderful ladies (and guys in some cases) that can go from raging demon to moe moe in under six seconds. We, the intrepid risk takers and go getters here at the OSMcast! will be talking about this most classic of anime tropes. The history, the whys, the hows, and we’ll probably even get pissed off at you, before secretly showing that we actually like you.

The Works of Rumiko Takahashi: This is a panel borne from the hot fiery shounen brolliance that is the OSMrenditions (OSMcast! + Akihabara Renditions) this is a panel where we talk about Rumiko Takahashi. And probably argue about her stuff a lot. It should be pretty entertaining!

Mordin: This is the new why you play Mass Effect.

So after recording this podcast and looking where one might want to pick this movie up, we discovered that while the Blu-ray edition is plentiful and can be bought most anywhere, Bandai (via their Honneamise label) never bothered to release an equivalent DVD version. That means the last DVD version of Akira made on DVD was the Geneon Signature Series one released in 2004.

Hey remember these guys?

Yeah, that’s right. Geneon. On the plus side Right Stuf has it for cheap!

Or you could also start buying the manga, as Kodansha has resumed publishing rights the manga series and has put out the first volume, with the rest being released in 2010.

Protip: Due to magical and mystical nature of audio processing Daryl sounds a touch softer than Kevin and Basil. It makes us feel more important than we actually are. Also we trip over each over a little bit, as while Daryl is used to talking via the Internets, Basil and Kevin are not. You have been warned!

First off, technically we are releasing late on Monday but it’s still Monday so it counts! The file initially exported to mp3 wrong so we had to reprocess it. after DJ Inubito got home from work. Crazy, I know.

Sadly right now the only way to get this show is via fansubs. This would probably be a good place to start. And if we ever get a retail release you can be sure that we will be preaching it from the mountain tops.

Before this episode went up I (Basil) asked for suggestions to fill the text space up. After a few posts of nothing (well Cleavland has an idea) Lee then bombarded me with 15 bazillion ones. I suppose he must have been really bored at work today. I was going to delete post once I had a good topic but since he gave me SO MANY topics the post will stay up so I’ll have a list of options whenever I need to fill up space. I’ll call it Lee’s List. After talking about Black Lion and Brutal Legend we felt, “Why stop here?” So we decided to watched what on it’s DVD box cover proclaims as “The most violent, action packed animated film of all time!”

And that is the 1986 anime film adaptation of Fist of the North Star by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson.

Savvy shoppers can find this DVD pretty easily for around $20-25. If you want to watch the TV show, you can stream it. All 152 episodes. And from what we hear, it is very entertaining.

As long as people exploding in amazing fashion along with equally amazing 80′s fashion is your thing (How can that NOT?!}.

You may also consider on picking up Nostalgia, if the idea of a classic turn-based J-RPG on the go sounds appealing to you. Which you should find compelling, because it’s awesome.

While a day late and a dollar short, the OSMcast! returns with some slightly less than hot off the presses podcasting action! Since the latest season of anime hitting Japan pretty much blows, we’ve discovered that we’ve ended up playing a lot more video games than usual!  So we took the whole Moment of OSM/Whatcha Been Playing segment into the entire podcast. ISN’T THIS EXCITING!?!

In the end we talk the most about Brutal Legend, but we cover the bases from Uncharted 2 to Phantasy Star IV and a whole bunch inbetween. Old, new, we don’t care!

So we had to find another way to transfer the files (Which ended up being a new flash drive).  Then Basil installed Windows 7! Which means all his programs went bye bye and he didn’t realize quite what all that meant until he had to upload and format the podcast for publiscation and stuff.

Hell, I dunno either!

This latest podcast is all about the anime con that just happened. It’s called Anime Weekend Atlanta. It was pretty awesome. And so here are two nightcap sessions we recorded on Friday and Saturday night. Aside from the usual crew of OSM Central, we also have our ever-present buddies over at Akihabra Renditions. And add that extra something with just adding Basil won’t cut it, Chad Bonin of GaijINside on Friday’s section and Niko of MTAC and GMX fame on Saturday’s section. Oh! And some guy named Dusty who happened to be on the room Friday night. We get the BIG NAMES here folks!

MAJOR SCREW UP: And once again, we apologize for mixing up names on the first half. When we say Rikki Simons, we actually meant Jonathan Tarbox. These two gentlemen are both awesome guys and we feel bad for mixing up names. We blame the fact that it was really late at night. Because honestlt, Tarbox is a freakishly amazing name and I have no idea how we could forget such name. I mean, Tarbox. Man.

AWA was amazingly awesome! Most excellent panel shout outs go out to Drew, Richard, and Dave Merrill for the great Classic Mecha panel. Clarissa’s Blackjack panel was also kickass, and major thanks for joining us for the Podcaster’s Roundtable. Gerald’s History of Hentai and AIC (Darius was awesome too!) panels were wondrous. And, of course, I do in fact Believe in Daryl Surat. Helen McCarthy’s Unknown Tezuka Panel was illuminating. Carl Horn’s and Jonathan “Completely not Rikki Simons” Tarbox’s State of the Manga Industry was excitingly candid.

And any other panels I’m not thinking of, were also probably amazing.

I'd like to say Rail took the picture at this angle. So I will.

… Like Vertical’s which has helped me start working on my Xmas list. See, there was just too much stuff to remember it all.

AWA IS THIS WEEK HOLY SHIT. SO NOT READY.

So anyway, the OSMcast is going BACK to Atlanta this weekend for Anime Weekend Atlanta! I’m sure we’ll running amok wherever we go, but we’ll definitely be crashing the podcast panel again, and possibly a Gundam panel (since it will be hosted by some guys we know). And I’m pretty sure we’ll be going to these panels.

Because by god SOMEONE HAS TO

We’ll probably will be submitting some panels ourselves for next year, but this year there just wasn’t time. BUT! In theory we’ll be wearing our brand new OSMcast T-Shirts, but that’s only if the printer found our shirts. Also our pals at Dou(gai)jin Recordings are releasing their newest CD! For free! And while we say pals, the truth is that two of the members are in fact DJ Inubito and Basil.*  Our intrepid beatsmith provided a wonderfully oonst-a-riffic rendition of a Blaster Master theme while Basil banged his head at a computer until a cover design came out. So keep an eye out for that!

And although AWA will most likely be our last convention stop this year, that doesn’t mean there aren’t cons that YOU should miss out on!

The question should be not What is GMX? It should be, Why not GMX?

For those that like Nashville and the whole Tennessee shebang, there’s GMX. It should be exciting, new, shiny, and all around fun! We want to go, they want us to go, but previously planned things like college and weddings and whatnot get in the way. So instead, YOY SHOULD GO. And for the Georgia side, there’s Nerdacon! We had a chance to meet them at Dragon*Con, and they seem like they know how to have a good time. So if you can swing that, it’d be swell.

Giant robots and signs with the letter N just go well together.

And speaking of people we met at Dragon*Con, Basil had the chance to be on a future video podcast episode by Channel Z. They read Naruto fanfiction until they could read no more. (As it turns out, it’s about an hour’s worth.) As soon as they get that out, we’ll let you know.

Soul Eater

This time on the OSMcast! we decided things were getting little too old in the mix, so we thought we’d review something a bit newer. So here’s a podcast all about the anime adaptation of Soul Eater by BONES, from the original work by Atsushi Okubo.

Rail kept complaining that the opening wasn’t HARDCORE enough. So hopefully it sufficed. While Funimation has the rights to the Soul Eater anime and will surely be releasing the DVDs at some point, Yen Press has the manga rights and will start releasing the manga in stand alone volumes starting in October. In the meantime the Soul Eater manga is being printing in their monthly Yen Plus magazine.

So, we asked in this episode about the use of our forum. Would you like for us to have our own set of forums, or would you just like us to use the forums we actually have? Let us know!

We’re back in the groove! We decided to kick things back into second gear with our take on the ADV release of My Dear Marie, the 3-part anime OAV adaptation of the manga by Sakura Takeuchi.

Musical Interlude: The Phenomenauts. If you could somehow define the word awesome as a band, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better one. I mean, there are the guys that have founded the genre of ROCKET ROLL. They know nothing but cold steel and laser beams and space ships. And they can rock out with honor. Science and honor.

You can still find this DVD hanging around, both packaged by itself and also as a bundle with Cosplay Complex. The bundle is oddly enough cheaper. Probably because it was released later. Whether or not it’s worth getting Cosplay Complex in addition to My Dear Marie for cheaper… Sure, I guess!

One could say they are phenomenal.

I have no clue is Cosplay Complex is good or not, but My Dear Marie is worth it. You can use the other for frisbee golf or perhaps a target for left over firecrackers. You know, if Cosplay Complex sucks. In any case I highly doubt it’s as fun, quirky, or as much fun to watch as My Dear Marie. She’s got spunk!

Man,  just when you thought it was safe to listen to podcasts, we had go and post this. It’s our long lost MTAC episode! Okay, so it was never really lost, but I guess it is kind of long! It’s a (totally not true) story about some dudes that were so hyped to see a rough cut of The Phantom Menace that they road tripped to the Skywalker Ranch to steal it. This story ends up being way better than the movie they wanted to steal.

Since out last podcast was on stuff that was really new, we decided to check out something that’s a little bit older. So in honor of Cinco de Eleven we talked about They Were Eleven*, an anime adaption of the manga by Moto Hagio.

*Hey it was this or Ocean’s Eleven. Which begs the question, if they ever did a sequel using the same premise, would it have been called “They Were Twelve… No Wait, Still Eleven” followed by perhaps “They Could Have Almost Been Thirteen, But Nah! Still Eleven.” And the answer is actually no, it’s “Horizon of the East, Eternity of the West.” Color me disappointed.

That group of rag-tag brash musical reimagineers?  Well their leader, their Red Ranger if you will, is man known as DJ Cynispin. Like we said in the podcast, now that Central Park Media is gone this DVD is out of print. But you can still find it pretty cheap, if you act on it soon. So here are a few places to buy it.  Honestly between the six days ago when we recorded this and today’s release, prices on They Were Eleven and other CPM stuff have already started to go up. And this is a show that every one of you should have in your collection. Did we mention just how awesome Frol is? Frol is one of the most fun characters to watch do their “thing.” And by “thing” I mean “run around being onrey for onrey’s sake.” For a movie like this, good levity is key and Frol is some of the best at it.

Keeping our promise, our pact, to you dear listeners you will note that we have to the side the images were talking about of Mari Illustrious Great Gatsby the III. See the wonders of her frog-like nature! Will she actually roll out with some form of awesome motorized wheel chair? Will said wheel chair also have it’s own AT Field? Fallout 3

In this week’s episode of the OSMcast, we’re joined by the Anime World Order‘s Daryl Surat to talk about Fallout 3. It’s  Bethesda Game Studios’ take on the classic video games series Fallout by Black Isle Studios. So of course we talk about those too. All in all it’s a very Fallout-y podcast. Except when it’s not.

Spoiler Alert: After the podcast Inubito and I did leave to try and see Crank: High Voltage. However, the fools that we were decided to get food first and missed the last showing. So instead we saw Fast & Furious, which was neither fast nor furious.

You can pretty much find this game everywhere that you can find remotely new games. Hell, I think some places still have Collector’s Editions floating around at discounted prices. And who wouldn’t want a Pip-Boy bobble head and a Fallout 3 lunchbox. I mean really. As far as I can tell, this game is pretty awesome, and you all should totally buy it. Speaking of things you can buy…

Rumor has it that Toys ‘R’ Us has the PS2 game God Hand around for $20. This one of the best action games around. In fact some may say it’s even the best action game, EVER. (It also has the best ending credits song, too!) We’ve mentioned the game in the show before, as it’s one of those weird games that’s really good but got some really bad scores. Why? I have no clue, maybe some people just don’t like fun. Oh, and if you too lazy to leave your house, that’s fine! It looks like their website has it, too.

Sonny Strait, being awesome

This week we bring you our super-short interview with voice actor and artist Sonny Strait that we got at MTAC. He’s done many roles, like Krillin from Dragon Ball Z, Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist, Lupin the 3rd from… Lupin the 3rd,  as well as the current voice of Usopp from One Piece. On top of that he’s also done directing work for FUNimation. Oh by the way, he also has his own webcomic called Car Bombs, and worked as a penciler for Elfquest for a couple of stories.

TL,DR:  Sonny Strait is a man of many talents and he gifted us some of his time to throw some questions at him, so here they are for you to enjoy.

Protip: This was done on the spot in the Artist Alley at MTAC as the man ignored his lunch to talk to us. But due to the hustle and bustle of the con this may be an episode for the home rather than for the car.

This week we decided to kick it off with our epic-ly long interview with two of the hardest working folks in anime fandom today:  Robert and Emily DeJesus of Studio Capsule. They talked about all sorts of things with us, like what it takes to make it out there as an artist and the Best Con Slogan Ever. Did we mention Emily also is the con chair for Ohayocon? Also joining us was (I believe) Richard from Akihabara Renditions.

Whenever I hear our Skippy Promo I think of this. Robert DeJesus is an inspiration to us all.

You know, with all of these various Internet sites (and there are actually more if you know where to look), I find it really weird someone had to write a “What ever happened to Robert DeJesus?” page. Did the idea of using Google just never come up?

Of course I’m sure that you can find out about Emily using those same sites, but I’ve heard talk that she runs an mean anime con. Hopefully when 2010 rolls around we’ll get to find out!

Middle Tennessee Anime Convention

It’s the Monday after MTAC Ninja but the OSMcast must go on! Speaking of the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention, here’s a chat we had about the con with Christi Binkley, MTAC’s Director of Media Relations and Advertising.  In other words, “Press Wrangler.” We talk a bit about the con and what it takes to make one of these con things happen.

Also joining us was the wonderful Marc Smazik of Akihabara Renditions.

Protip: Speaking of Akihabara Renditions, we totally stole their set up for this. Sadly, we also had no clue how to actually use any of it. As a result there is a lot of noise where we held the microphones like retards and the audio reflects this. Our apologizes. This probably isn’t a very good episode to listen to in the car.

This is actually merely one of many episodes that we recorded during MTAC. We’ll be doling them as they get edited, so stay tuned for more! Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Incidentally guys and gals, MadWorld is also mad fun. There is nothing more visceral on the Wii than yanking on the Wii Remote and Nunchuck and watching my enemies be ripped in twain. I literally have not had so much fun on this system since Mario Galaxy. They need to take this engine and gameplay and give me a Fist of the North Star varient. Good stuff. Very fun.

Sadly what wasn’t fun was that as I was talking during this recording I could feel my throat dying. Lo and behold this past week it turned for the worse as I’ve had a monsterously bad throat infection. So what do I do when I get sick? I watch seasons of anime!  And for this purpose I downloaded obtained two series: Library War and all of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Well the main 110 episodes). Of course I haven’t watched ALL of the show yet, but I’ll get through them eventually. It is now only a matter of time.

Speaking of only and matter of time and anime, this weekend is MTAC! I (Basil, aka the guy who writes all these crazy posts and “show notes” ) will be on at least two panels at MTAC. I’ll be a part of the Podcast Roundtable Panel which is being held Friday night at 7:00 PM in the Fan Panel room. Then on Sunday at 1 in Panel Room 2 I’ll be the “token male” in the Shojo Mojo Panel: Feminism in Anime. I could be in some risky waters here!

Thankfully, I’m pretty sure they never listened to Weeadicks…

More like Street Fighter: The Legend of CRAP-Li HUR HUR HUR

A coworker asked me over this past week: “So what happened to the Survivor Horror in Resident Evil 5?”

I told him: “It’s now called sitting through Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.”

I know this, because I have sat through this movie.

This episode is pretty much just a PSA to the world that no one ever should go see Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.EVER. But you all probably knew that. We went to go make sure, because sometimes you have to stand, even when it’s hard to stand.

And now our horrors have been shared and brought to you.

Please do not go see this film. Do not rent this film. This isn’t a bad-good. This is just poor. Do not say that we did not warn you.

Deep within the underground (and also echo-y) OSMbunker, keeping the awesome alive, we decided to talk not about the movie adaption of  Watchmen, the amazing graphic novel by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins, but the graphic novel itself.

Cave Story is also easy to find… On the Internet, anyway. Here’s a fansite that has links to download the game and the patch to make it readable via the English Language.  And here’s the official WiiWare version’s site, if you are like me and want to play it on a TV easily and give Pixel (the creator) money. You could also play Peggle, which is way too addictive, seriously. I’m now wondering if I shouldn’t have talked about it. Maybe you all should not download and play this game. This is the kind of game that ruins lives. Do you want your life ruined by happiness? I mean, really.

Full Metal Panic!

We had made plans. Awesome plans. But then those plans were dashed! So we made new ones. BETTER ONES. Then those were dashed and we said NAY SIR and to prove it we did a podcast on the anime adaptation of Shoji Gatoh’s Full Metal Panic! by GONZO.

Protip: This may be one of the few times we actually say something good about a show that GONZO has touched. I was amazed too.

Promo: Robotronic Dynamite! These gamer guys are pretty great (and also elegant). For example, they have us listed as one of their Super Friends. Secondly, they just nabbed the voice actor for Fei Long to talk about Street Fighter IV with them. Did I mention they were elegant? Also mighty.  So please check them out.

Pluto is freaking sweet

Okay so it turns out this show is more expensive than I thought. I thought it would be closer to $30, but it turns out it’s closer to $50-60. Then again this is 26 episodes we are talking about here, so I guess it’s not such a bad deal.

I noticed when I was working up the update today (the 8th), the OSMcast is one year old! WOW. I was never sure if we’d last a year, yet now I can’t see how I couldn’t. The OSMcast is one of the most fun and rewarding things to do ever, and it’s because of Listeners Like You that we are still around.

Slayers Revolution

In this episode of the OSMcast! we decided to throw down with the latest adventures of Lina and the gang by talking about Slayers Revolution!

Right now Slayers Revolution is kind of hard to get to at the moment. When the series started up a small while back, you could find fansubs of it. But with a quickness Funimation grabbed up the rights to both it and Slayers Evolution-R. Fansubs dried up  really quick (because if anyone knows where to look for places to throw some cease and desist orders, it’s Funimation.).

Not that this is a bad thing! Especially since they’ve promised us streaming versions of Slayers officially subtitled soon. How soon, I have no clue.

I’m sure that we’ll talk about in a future World of OSM when it happens.

Baccano! It's pretty darn awesome.

Speaking of streaming and Funimation, they also have Baccano! You can actually watched the first episode on their site, although it is dubbed. We talked about Baccano! in Show #10, although it is spoileriffic and me might have missed a fact there or two. If you would rather have a less spoiler-filled podcast, Daryl Surat of the AWO recently covered it. Or you could just buy it. Trust me, this was the best show of 2007 this side of Gurren Lagann. You will not be disappointed. 

Just to remind everyone who might be going to MTAC, so are we! Infact we’ll be on the podcasting panel, where there will be special secret prizes. What will these be? I don’t know I’m not handling it! But I hear that there will be some. And I’ll be there to run my mouth off in person. I see no reason why this is a bad thing, really. Maybe we can try that whole taking photos thing again, the cosplay kids seemed to like that.

MTAC: It's where it's AT, come April 3rd-5th anyway!

We mentioned that the nerdcore anime hip hop group The Band of Seven will be there to run MTAC’s dance off. I asked them for a link so that you all could check them out and what do they do? They sent us three. These guys have their stuff together way more than we do, with our measly one URL. To wit: They are planning to release their second album at MTAC, that is said to be produced while on a spaceship. If this is true, I want to know where one can find one of these things. I’m in the Rocket City and so far, no dice.

Street Fighter IV

And other stuff, too. Like God Hand, Lost Odyssey, Shiren the Wanderer, Senko no Ronde… and Superman 64. (Sorry about that.)

Street Fighter IV is out on Xbox 360 and PS3, and in fact is so brand new it hasn’t even been out a week when this podcast gets posted. Therefore you should go out into the world, walk into a store, and go buy it. Because that may just be the last time you see the sun for some time.

However finding a decent stick or one of those fancy fightpads… Not so easy.

So I suggest that spend your money on Senko no Ronde instead  (Please ignore the stupid cover art. Yeah, Ubisoft didn’t have a clue what to do with this thing.). That is, if the idea of Street Fighter in the context of a shoot ‘em up appeals to you. On the other hand,  the good man Inubito would suggest that perhaps Slide America – A Nationwide Documentary on Drifting in North America might be something you hip drifting cats would be interested in. It will certainly be a  more accurate portrayal of the sport than other movies releasing this year.

Tales of Vesperia

After way too long, we are now able to post our take on Namco Bandai Games’ latest game in the “Tales of” series, Tales of Vesperia!

It’s our actual original recording too! We (aka DJ Inubito) were able to salvage it after all.  (Which is good because our attempt to rerecord was not so good…)

Protip: We’re still using the travel mcrophone, so the audio isn’t at it’s best yet. One day Samson will get my orginal mics back to me!

Tales of Vesperia is possibly the best Xbox 360 JRPG out there, depending on who you ask. But chances are you’ll like it, if not love. And it’s still crazy-easy to find. So you should go buy it.

However Namco Bandai’s Dragonball: Evolution for PSP? Not looking so hot. But hey I guess it’s still better than Street Fighter: The Movie: The Video Game. Both of them.  No wait… I think I’d still rather play those. Sorry Dragonball!

And if you haven’t lamented the fate of Winter, please do so. Giest was an alright game, and the Wii gets precious few enough actually interesting games as of late.

Because we just weren’t done talking about hot chicks blowing up robots, we decided to continue forth with our opinions on Mamoru Oshii’s movie adaptaion of the Masamune Shirow classic, Ghost in the Shell!

Spoiler: We lied! The movie is actually about basset hounds.

One of the pluses on reviewing a hallmark of Japanese animation, especially as one so uh, digital as Ghost in the Shell, is that you can find the DVD for it pretty cheap. I mean, like $12.04 and $12.14 with free shipping cheap. Or if you have a really banging 6.1, 7.1, or Whatever is the Lastest Greater than 5.1 Surround Sound System then I suppose you could pony up the extra 10-20 bucks to grab the special edition that’s floating around. Of course, chances are that if you an afford such a sound system, you can afford the extra money for the DVD.

Apperently "tensai" means "genius." ... Yeah.

Ol’ Robert Pelloni (aka Bob) is still hard at work living locked up in his room as protest to Nintendo for not getting to him the tools he needs to move his project (the eventually DS game “Bob’s Game”) into the realm of retailability. Good luck Bob! After I’ve started playing Chrono Trigger on the DS, I’ve realized I need more RPGs that look and play like they should on the SNES in my life. And yours looks like an SNES-era Enix knockoff, so I have hope!

Robotrek is awesome and Bob should be inspiried to even greater... greatness by these pixels. I know I am.

I’m serious here, unheard of Enix games like Soul Blazer and Robotrek are the best. Okay, so most all the Quintet-developed games pre-Grandstream Saga are the best, but still! I loved those games and your (Bob’s) game reminds me off them. I only worry that much like many other projects that started with much fanfare and the devleoper shooting his mouth off on how the great his game is only for the games to crash and burn, yours will not stand the test of time. I hope you can prove my worries are for naught!

Looking at the various places one can buy the boxed set of Bubblegum Crisis, I discovered that the best place was actually AnimEigo themselves. But we all now know that Nekocon is awesome. Now I’d like to point something we forgot to mention in in the World of OSM. You see that screen cap on the left there? See the next one below that? The place I stole the screens from is a site complaining on now two of the three main networks that air the recent season of this crap are censoring the fanservice.

This is the travesty that others have now bemoaned and wailed and the gnashing of teeth and crap. Bats are not fanboys' best friends!

Apparently the one factor that people are drawn to the show (more panty shots per capita than a season run of Ramna episodes starring Happosai) has gotten so outrageous the networks that agreed to let this show get advertising money that they are throwing cute bats everywhere to cover up the said 50+ panty shots per episode. Go figure.

Legend of Galactic Heroes 2 or Irresponsible Captain Kamina? Only the Future knows!

Now, I will make no judgments upon the person for instead of using the phrase “panty shot” instead they use the phrase, “pantsu.” Whatever. The point is that even they are confused as to why the networks are even bothering. And to that sentiment I agree with them. However I have a different solution for you Osaka TV and Aichi TV. It’s really easy: Stop showing the show and show Nodame or Tytania or something I dunno… Good. Sure, it’s a wild idea that has no place in things like contacts or anything resembling logic and how these things actually work. I’d just rather see good shows being shown more than bad shows.

We just got back from CrisisCon, and it was pretty fun! Definitely an enjoyable con, and we’ll be sure to come back next year. I’m sure we’ll talk more about it on our next podcast, but by then Inubito and Basil will have already been to Nekocon! Such is the way our recording and update shcedule works…

Street Fighter IV is looking like it’s shaping up to be pretty awesome. They’re even having a contest where if you art is rad enough, it’ll be on the inner cover of the game! But right now all we care about is the awesome magazine ads we were talking about. Until then, we’ll just play more Third Strike and I’ll weep that Makoto isn’t in SFIV yet.

Oddly enough the most repeated question at the Crisis Con panel was “Do you get enough feedback?” And the answer is a resounding “NO, WE DO NOT AND IT MAKES OUR SOULS UNHAPPY. If nothing us you’ll get to listen to us ramble on for an hour of your day. Only this time it’s live and in person! I believe the DWPN guys are playing to pull off either a stream or a live recording of the panel, so I’d imagine we’ll be linking to that when we can.

Not only shall we be attending CrisisCon Halloween weekend in Huntsville, Alabama… But we’ll also be going out to Hampton, Virginia for Nekocon the week after!

Fun Fact #1: Basil’s first ever anime soundtrack on CD was bought during AWA 5. It was a KOR soundtrack and costed him around $30 for a second-hand copy. Later on he ended up buying another several soundtracks from another dealer but it only costed him like $12 a disc. He was amazed at his good fortune and wondered why the Kimagure Orange Road one costed him so much. Basil soon discovered out after the con that all the cheap ones were in fact bootlegs and his KOR one was actually legit. D’oh!

Fan Fact #2: The director for the TV series of KOR, Osamu Kobayashi, also directed another romance drama show called Paradise Kiss as well as the rockin’ show BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Even more recently however he guest-directed the fourth episode of Gurren Lagann. By the way this is also the worst episode of the show and caused such an uproar on 2chan that one of the founders of Gainax made fun of the forum-goers, then stepped down from the studio days later. D’oh x2!

In other news something amazing has occured! Street Figher IV is one of the few video games ever to sport the most awesome cover art for the US region as opposed to Japan or Europe! This like, NEVER HAPPENS. But I guess someone in Capcom decided to throw us a bone. So props to that!

But no, really, AWA was a ton of fun. We got to meet the folks behind AWO (Daryl, Gerald, and Clarissa), Greatest Movie Ever (Paul Chapman), and fellow new kids on the block podcast Akihabra Renditions (Drew Sutton).  Not only that, but they actually let some of us (Basil and DJ Inubito) on the podcasting roundtable panel.  THOSE FOOLS! But no really it was great and hopefully we didn’t sound too stupid.

I also (along with Lee) had the chance to interview Gina Biggs of the webcomic Red String (and the Strawberry Comics collective) for a little bit on Sunday, which will get it’s own segment later on in the week. And Inubito also took some photos at the con, and once I edit them I’ll post’em up on the site. Sadly while we knew there was some awesome FF12 cosplayers there that we had met at MTAC earlier this year, we somehow missed our chance and nabbing their photos. Sorry about that awesome FF12 cosplayers.

Now this podcast really isn’t a day late or anything. I mean, it’s not like a bird hit a plane causing Inubito’s friend’s flight to be delayed so he was busy entertaining his guest to mix down the podcast until late Monday night. And like we said, MGS4 is gosh darn awesome. And you do end up feeling pretty bad for Old Snake sometimes, when they make fun of him for being old and his Psych meter goes down in the saddest noise possible.

Pretty good stuff! You should totally buy it. Or at least try the demo. You could also go buy Commando 3 on the XBLA while you’re at it so you can try the new SFII: HD Remix beta going on. Or Space Invaders Extreme!
I still cannot beat Level 4, but one day… ONE DAY!!!

Okay so admittedly I just beat MGS4, so at the moment I’m busy going “OMG MGS4 MGS4!!!!” therefore actual show notes aren’t exactly on my mind. Though I am sad to find out the Wal-Mart sale is apparently already over so… oops. Hopefully those of you out there will have already realized this deal and have bought one!

The rest of you should follow my lead and steal I mean borrow them from all your friends that just obtained those PS3s and play Metal Gear Solid 4 on them. I want to say that this new Metal Gear is good enough that you’ll want to buy a PS3 anyway, but I know that’s just the MGS fanboy in me and that overall the 360 is still
the better gaming system.

… Maybe.

Kekkaishi is also an awesome show and an even more awesome manga. You should go buy all of the manga now. They have 14 volumes so far out so you have plenty to catch up on!

For example if you wanted an in depth discussion on how Niko’s journey into America as an immigrant was portrayed in the game compared to how it is seen and actually is in America, well… We could do that.

However this does end creating our longest podcast ever. But anyway, seriously guys, there were parts of this movie that were more awesome than Iron Man. Really. Not kidding! Though I guess overall Iron Man is the better movie, it’s already made tons of money so go spend it on Speed Racer instead!

It’s Nerd Movie Box Office Domination Month here at the OSM Central! What this means is that during the month of May, we’ll be doing our best to bring you two podcasts a week this month: The normal one on Friday, and these special ones based on the “nerd”  movies we’ll be seeing this month. In case you haven’t noticed, tonight’s was Iron Man. Next week is Speed Racer, then the latest Narnia flick Prince Caspian, and we’ll bring it home with Indy IV.

Yeah, it was a pretty swell con. The Cosplay Picture Gallery Thing we promised can be found by clicking these words! Definite shout outs go to froggyfluf who we thought was cosplaying Simca, but as it turns out it was another Air Gear character named Kururu. Whoops! The pink hair totally threw us off. As it turns out she’s also a pretty great artist so you should check out her stuff. Another deviant-artist we met was a photographer who took a lot of really sweet pictures.

Of course we can’t forget CSHC and Random, who put on hella osm shows that night!

The two martial artist performances were done by Shaolin Concepts and Capoeira Angola Palmares-Nashville.

As you can tell by the date of when we said this was recorded and when it was posted, there’s been a bit of a time skip. We’ve been experiencing some various technical difficulties (illness, computers dying, WoW, Persona 3, among others) so we actually have several podcasts recorded. Hopefully though now that our wonderful and most favorite beatsmith and premo-producer DJ Inubito now has his amazing new computer, we’ll be able to push more of these out the door.

And perhaps even I dunno, eventually start getting some podcasts out in a timely matter. Crazy, I know!
