maybe gainax wanted to balance it out? (thankfully there really isn’t a “boob jiggle joke” equivalent for a male character……………………………………….that i know of…)

I’m probably more sensitive to it, particularly when it’s treated the way GL did with the whole, “OK check out this girl with a bigass gun! Now watch as we do ABSOFUKKENLUTELY NOTHING with her except make her a romantic interest and constant boobjiggle joke! Have we made it clear yet that only guys are allowed to be totally awesome in this world?”

Like GGG doesn’t have a complete lack of tits and there aren’t any strictly asskicking girls, but it doesn’t pull a bait-and-switch on me. (Also the badass guy is a lot less of an asshole, which is always a plus for me.)

Having never seen GaoGaiGar I can’t comment on that one, but I dunno I just really didn’t notice a ton of “HEY LOOK SEXY” going on in GL, especially after Kamina dies and the real plot surfaces.

Maybe I was just ignoring it? I dunno, it had Yoko and that Blonde girl doing the pretty standard anime jello tits that defy the laws of nature thing but I never thought it was distracting, and generally speaking it does not take much in the way of big knockers to get me distracted.

You know what’s funny Sooz is that Yoko is one of my least favorite characters and also (at least in the discussions I’ve had with basil/susie/barry/kevin/brad) one of the least talked about. And believe me I’m not shy about saying “I watch this because it’s got really hot girl with her tits out”. Mostly what makes the series fun is it’s crazy over the top nature , not one woman who inexplicably wears a bikini top and daisy dukes.

Well the OSM 5 are always the same for any guest. They’re the same OSM 5 asked for the DeJesuses, Sonny Straight, and Carl Horn. That’s the OSM 5’s gig, man. That’s how they roll.

Also I overall asked the same questions because that’s what I had wrote down to ask. We took up most of our alloted time doing the first interview, and then Audacity crashed so hard we couldn’t even recover the previous take. Sadly that did not give me time to think up whole new questions, although I did on a few as they came to me. That, and you would have never gotten the answers to the initial set anyway had I not asked them, since Audacity had casted them into the Void.

What really sucks about this is that I didn’t realize I had the gain up higher than intended, so everything is extra staticy! Sorry about that folks!

I mean, I guess it makes sense for some of the anime-role related stuff, but you’re having him answer the same “OSM 5″ questions at the end as he did the first time. He even says at one point “That’s a good question. You didn’t ask me that one last time.”

no lie, hand to god, i own the ADV copy of Southern Cross and have sat through the entire series, without going insane, even with all the Jean/Dana shower scenes, it’s really, really horrible, that’s probably why Macek and Harmony Gold bought it for a song when Robotech was being assembled
Tatsunoku, i don’t care about the money i spent on this series, just give me the time i spent watching this back to me, now Mospeada was an OSM little cult show

Daryl’s right about modern Sunrise shows appealing to both fangirls and fanboys alike without too much of an emphasis on the mecha themselves, though they can still make something good enough to be worth watching in spite of repeating a certain set of mistakes.

Personally, I think almost everything they’ve made after GSD hasn’t sunk quite that low again, even at its worst, so they’re at least gradually getting better.

As for Shin Mazinger itself, that was one heck of a show and I think you guys did a good job reviewing it. I didn’t mind the increased emphasis on the story, that actually gives the series more replay value in the long term. Imagawa himself really needs to get more work.

And yes…I haven’t been commenting lately, but I’m still getting the show through the feed.

Actually, my anime club had a slightly different experience with the first episode of Shin Mazinger. I had people coming up to be wanting to see more because it was just crazy and out there.

Yeah, and if you add Macross Frontier to the mix we had three pretty good mecha shows airing around roughly the same time period too. Doesn’t happen that often.

Nice ‘cast overall. Gundam 00 is indeed the best alternate universe Gundam series we’ve seen in ages, although it does somewhat bother me that they left quite a number of things rather open-ended for the movie, including what will or will not come out of Aeolia’s plan in the long run. I’m not sure we’ll see actual aliens though, but who knows?!

I guess you weren’t kidding about stealing my post…of which I stole from actual legitimate anime news sources.

Code Geass was a really fun show to watch. It was entertaining throughout most of it, and I was pleased with the ending. It also gave me a new appreciation for Pizza Hut.

Unfortunately, Bandai Entertainment seems to have a trend with glitchy discs. Luckily, I haven’t ran into any on my BE discs, but then again, I’ve yet to rewatch many of mine since I finally legally bought them.

Did you guys go to PersaCon? Possibly an upcoming episode?

The ‘cast was a little messy but a lot of fun. I guess it was appropriate.

It’s unfortunate that so much changed between the two seasons, but the ending did turn out close enough to what the staff had planned. Explains why it was good at wrapping things up.

Btw, all the Japanese mecha have those motorcycle-like seats, unlike Britannia’s. The difference is you don’t really notice when it’s not Kallen (or a female) piloting one. Oh camera angles…kinda like how she’s only seen naked twice or thrice, but the show almost makes you think it happened more often.

Nice. Soul Eater sounds like a pretty good show as far as shounen fighting goes. The fact that all the fights aren’t simply one-on-one affairs should be interesting to see. Might check it out.

Good discussion but not much to comment here…I haven’t seen any Star Trek movie in ages and only expect to watch the newest one this weekend. Maybe this will make me go back into the franchise as a whole, from the sound of it.

As for Endless Fanservice (heh), it’s a nice little game. Grinding is actually fun and they definitely had no shame as far as the dialogue goes, which works to great comedic effect. I do prefer the main SRW games though.

It was a wise man who said “If you tell a man about the robot disco, he discos for a day. If you let a man find the robot disco for himself, he will robot disco for a lifetime” and that wise man might have been Jesus, who is a playable character in Xenosaga, which is where KOSMOS is from, who is a playable character also in Endless Frontier. Which has a robot disco special attack, done by a 100+ year old oni girl who looks like she’s a loli. Which means she’s my favorite character of all. Which simply means, it’s there a little bit of robot disco in us all.

It’s kinda disorienting seeing the TOS characters in a scenario with a super-high SFX budget. No cheap alien puppet or rubber suit anywhere!

They Were Eleven is an interesting movie that I also overlooked until recently.

The mystery is decent enough to fool you the first time around, but even if the effect is certainly reduced after the fact, the characters are still pretty well developed for its total running time. Those that get enough lines I mean, but even the romance angle is alright, whatever jokes one could make about it.

Good stuff all in all.

Im fairly certain Abdullah and Hard Gay have met. Hard Gay primarially wrestles in Hustle and im sure Abdullah wrestled in Hustle at least once.

Also Abdullah the Butcher had much longer long term fame than Bob Sapp. He was a top star in wrestling during its peak on television in the 70s.

Of those two I’m finding myself enjoying Eden of the East more. Natsu no Arashi is a lot of fun, but as comedies go it’s not amazing. Just incredibly competent. Whereas Eden of the East feels like it’s going places, in directions you don’t normally see out of anime today. Then again, it could totally topple on itself and Eden of the East ends up sucking at the end.

I’m happy enough with Cross Game (liked what I saw of Touch and this one definitely has that 80s vibe, as well as a nice twist), Guin Saga (awesome Guin is awesome), Shin Mazinger (do I need to explain why?) and Sengoku Basara (see Shin Mazinger), but looks like I should probably check out Eden of the East and maybe Natsu no Arashi, from what you guys mentioned. We’ll see how that turns out.

The fact we can all enjoy something like Shin Mazinger in this day and age makes up for many other things.

Overall, good show. I haven’t actually played Fallout 3 and am just going off my limited experience with the first two, great games which I never finished, but this was still worthy my time.

Yikes, first comment in and the Mazinger hate train begins! At our anime club Lee recommended us to start with the second episode because he was afraid it was just too in media res for people. Obviously that was the case for you! I would very much recommend trying the second episode, since it’s really the first one. If you don’t like it then… I have no clue.

For a real portrayal of Rally King SP, check out the ramen chain sponsored “Gradius Archimedes Hen” on Famicom/NES.

Powerups turned into ramen noodle bowls.

These games generally had a limited production run and were given as promotional raffles and contests like in the game RGC.

Also, Haggleman was more closely based on the Ninja JaJaMaru-kun series.

“douglass” is not the biggest Slayers fan in the world….

“Revolutions” pisses me off. It’s totally ignoring the first season!
Pokota is a pokemon. It seemed to be “and HERE is our TOY TIE-IN!” The whole thing with Zanafaar and them going “OMG! What do we DO?” like the Bless Blade doesn’t exist. And Sylphiel just RANDOMLY showing up and acting like she wasn’t BORN in Sairaag…

Zelgadis/Xelloss? … Xelloss is a Mazoku, he’s not really capable of affection.

As for Try… I liked Fillia!
They did a good job at breaking her.

But I do agree with the statement of Zelgadis running off crying. That BLEW MY MIND! WTF?! He also said that he was fine with being a Chimera… that was kinda … freaky.
Also agree with the statements on the ending themes being better.

I’ll agree that lately the Pokemon anime has basically been an marketing ploy for the games for a few seasons now, but Detective Conan is still a good anime, albeit even slower and more drawn out than even Inuyasha was.

And after looking it up, the studio Satelight did in fact do the animation production for Macross Frontier! Although, apparently according to ANN they stopped animating Hellsing Ultimate after Volume 4, and Volume 5 is being done by Madhouse. Which is also a awesome animation studio, one well versed in the color red and featuring vampires.

Well I played the XBLA version, which is exactly like the PC version, so yes. Of course you can always download the demo and try it out for yourself if you’d like.

You did this on my day off I totally could have been there and you know I love this game…, I shake my fist at thee! Not really mad.
Anyway, cool podcast, the thing with your character being in preview movie was in the demo version of the game as you leave your neighborhood it plays a movie featuring events for the rest of the game but it does have your character in all of them so that was kinda cool and made me want to shell out $20 for the full version.

I <3 Kekkaishi. It’s just such an awesome and well-done show. Speaking of well-done things, nice job on this podcast. I wonder if people will be shocked and let loose cries of “SCANDALOUS” at some of Susie’s comments. I mean, no one that knows her personally will, but you know.

Damn, that’s a long podcast. I’m not saying that’s bad, because it was good and I’ve never played GTA4, I thing I will now, probably next game I buy unless a cool RPG comes out before then. Still it was hard finding a good time to listen to this.

Sorry for taking so long to comment, I know it makes you guys nervous when I don’t say anything. Friday is so convenient to listen it but I had to find another time for this one. Anyway, good job, Beer Desu, now I need to get the TV series episodes of Baccano because the DVD only eps and you guys made me want to see the rest.

Loved this OSMcast! Yeah, I was a little concerned about spoilers too, but you’re right. There’s just so much more there! I really really need to go back and watch the whole thing, because I feel like I missed a lot.

Yeah, I’ve only seen the show all the way through twice, and admittedly there has been some time between watching the original run and the new episodes. So I had a feeling that we’d get a couple of things wrong. Also, there’s just SO MUCH going on in it that show it’s easy to get one’s wires crossed.

After we recorded I was worried that we might have spoiled too much, then I realized that even what we did spoil is just a drop in the bucket compared to all that goes on in the show and once you are on the roller coaster that is Baccano! you probably won’t even notice it.

So glad to see some love and pimpage for Baccano!. Awesome series! I got a Nice cosplay and everything. So much win, and I swear I recommend this series to every person I meet.

It bothers me that you got a few of the show’s details wrong in your explanation, but I’ve seen the show about 4 times through in showing it to other people, so I doubt many others would realize it. You definitely captured all of the carefully crafted chaos that is Baccano!, and I hope this’ll get more people interested in the series!
